Nicky Weaver

The imposing figure of Nicky Weaver arrived at Maine Road towards the end of the 95/96 season to strengthen the club's goalkeeping staff.

He came from Mansfield Town though had made very few appearances for the reserve side. The young keeper had joined Mansfield on trainee forms and his prowess had came to the notice of Alex Stepney who realised he would be a worthwhile City investment.

His first outing in a City jersey was the Gary Flemming testimonial at Barnsley. Impressive pre-season performances at the start of the 98/99 season persuaded Joe Royle to give the teenager his chance in the first team and his League debut was against Blackpool on the opening day of the season when he kept a clean sheet.

Another Wembley hero and will forever be remembered for his run around the stadium on the final whistle.

Showed no fear of the jump in class to Division 1 and has won the hearts of the supporters. Turned in a magnificent display against Ipswich at Maine Road at the end of October to give City a 1-0 win.

Won U21 honours with England manager, Kevin Keegan tipping him for full international honours in the future.

Two uncharacteristic first half errors gifted Queens Park Rangers the points at Maine Road in March. But the crowd chanted his name at half time and you could almost touch the sympathy for the young keeper in the stadium.

Made several excellent saves in the final game at Blackburn and will relish the chance to take his place with the elite of English football next season. He missed only one game in City's season due to flu.
