1998-1999 season.
He then Joined Sporting lisbon and helped them to win the league title.

Wins the European Championship with Denmark, saves a
penalty from Marco Van Basten against Holland and is voted best player of the
tournament.

Helps Manchester United win their first Championship in
nearly 26 years. He keeps 17 clean sheets in 42 games and concedes only 31
goals.

Sent off against Charlton For Handling the ball outside
the area and misses uniteds league cup defeat against Aston villa through

Buys his original club Hvidovre.
2000:
Denmark get knocked out of the European Championships with
3 defeats in 3 games.
Schmeichel insists he will stay with Denmark and help them qualify for the World
cup in 2002.
2001:
Peter Schmeichel announces
that he is quitting international football to concentrate on his club career
with Sporting Lisbon.
"After nearly 14 fantastic and eventful years as a
Danish international I have sadly taken the decision to end my international
career," said Schmeichel.
2001:
Peter sensationally joins Aston Villa on a
free transfer, returning to the English game.
