United Trial For Danish Keeper

MANCHESTER UNITED have taken highly-rated young Danish goalkeeper Jesper Christiansen on trial with a view to taking the Odense star to Old Trafford in a £2.5 million transfer.
The 22-year-old has been impressive for the Danish side since succeeding veteran Lars Hogh this season, and was recently called into the Danish squad when injury ruled out Thomas Sorensen.

He has been told that he will eventually replace
Peter Schmeichel in the national squad, but it now appears that his career may follow the same path as the United legend, who moved to Old Trafford from Brondby in 1991.

Christiansen, who had a trial at Spurs earlier in the year, will spend three days with the Premiership champions, and could be offered a move should he impress.

"I'm flattered and the next few days will be exciting," said Christiansen on his arrival in Manchester on Sunday. "It's an opportunity that many don't get, that I grabbed.

"Of course, I want to do as well as possible so they see what I can do but more than that I haven't thought about. It has all gone so fast."

However, Odense are not looking to sell Hogh at this stage, although Hogh, who has now become sports director at the club, admitted that he would consider any offer made.

"Of course Jesper and I will look at it if we are offered x million," he said. "We don't have a contract in the making, but it's of course a great opportunity for Jesper."
