Hedman Recieves Offer

COVENTRY have received a serious offer for the services of Swedish international Magnus Hedman, but his future depends on whether City manage to avoid relegation from The Premiership.

The Sky Blues now have a ready-made replacement for their highly-rated keeper in the shape of teenage prospect Chris Kirkland, who recently signed a new contract at Highfield Road.

A number of Premiership sides have been credited with an interest in Hedman, and he has confirmed that there is an offer on the table.

"Yes, Coventry have received a serious offer for me," stated the 27-year-old. "But I don`t want to discuss it, given our situation.

"Chris Kirkland, who has replaced me when I have been injured, is just 19-years-old and has done well so far.

"It is possible Coventry will sell me to boost their finances."

The big keeper is relieved to be back in international action, with Malta providing the opposition, and keen to get back to his best.

"It has been a tough time," he admitted. "When I finally came back from my knee injury, I only played two league games before another accident struck.

"I have missed 16 matches since the World Cup qualifier against Slovakia. The worst thing is that I haven`t got the rehabilitation practice which is required after an injury period.

"Additionally, I received a knock against West Ham, on the same knee which I hurt against Slovakia. Ahead of the match against Charlton last Saturday, I hadn`t trained for a week.

"We haven`t given up hope of staying up yet. Besides Bradford, it is us, Manchester City and Middlesbrough who are fighting to avoid the last three places in the division.

"Ten matches remain and we face Bradford, for example, at home in the last week.

"Therefore, this friendly versus Malta on Wednesday feels like a nice break," he told DN. "Most of all, I need to be able to train well to regain top form again.

"The timing is not quite there. But I am not worried. If I can just practice regularly, I will find the right timing."
